The first 90 days on Amazon aren’t about profit — they’re about data, ranking signals and habits. Sellers who treat this window as an investment phase build accounts that compound; sellers who expect month-one profits usually quit before the flywheel starts. Here’s the operator’s checklist, week by week. (Part of our complete Amazon seller guide.)
Is Guide Mein
Days 1–7: Foundation
- – Listings live and complete — keyword-researched titles, all bullets, backend search terms filled to the byte limit, every attribute field done. A listing you’ll “improve later” is a listing that starts ranked wrong. (Rather have it done right once? Listing optimization.)
- – Images at full strength — white-background main image, 1000px+, 6-7 total including scale and lifestyle shots. Images decide your CTR before anyone reads a word.
- – Verify a test settlement — confirm bank deposits work before revenue depends on them.
- – Set up your daily 10-minute ritual: Account Health page, Buy Box status, new orders, messages. Every day, from day one.
Days 8–21: First Traffic
- – Launch an automatic PPC campaign at a modest daily budget. Its real job isn’t sales — it’s harvesting the search terms Amazon thinks you match.
- – Answer every buyer message within 24 hours. Response time feeds account health from the very first message.
- – Enrol in early review programs where eligible and set up Amazon’s “Request a Review” for every order. Never buy or incentivise reviews — Amazon detects it, and the penalty is your account.
- – Watch sessions vs. orders. Sessions with no orders = listing problem (price, images, reviews). No sessions at all = visibility problem (keywords, ads).
Days 22–45: First Optimization Pass
- – Harvest your auto campaign. Pull the search-term report: terms with sales → move into a manual exact-match campaign; terms with spend but no sales → negative-match them. This single ritual, weekly, is what separates profitable ad accounts from money furnaces. (It’s the core of our PPC management.)
- – Fix what the first reviews complain about — packaging, sizing confusion, missing instructions. Early complaints are free product research.
- – Check your pricing against the Buy Box if others sell your listing; even solo listings compete against category price expectations.
- – First reorder decision: if a SKU is moving, order stock NOW — supplier lead time + Amazon inbound time means today’s decision covers next month’s sales.
Days 46–75: Build the Moat
- – Consider FBA for your proven movers — the Prime badge typically lifts conversion enough to pay its fees on fast sellers.
- – Apply for Brand Registry if you have a trademark (or start the trademark process) — it unlocks A+ Content, brand analytics and hijacker protection.
- – Add A+ Content once registered; it measurably lifts conversion on the traffic you’re already paying for.
- – Tighten metrics before they tighten you: ODR under 1%, late dispatch under 4%, cancellations under 2.5%. Check yours against thresholds with our free Account Health Checker.
Days 76–90: Judge With Data, Not Feelings
By day 90 you should know, per SKU:
- – Conversion rate (orders ÷ sessions) — under ~5% usually means listing work remains
- – True ACoS and TACoS — is advertising buying growth or just buying sales you’d get anyway?
- – Return rate — the silent margin killer
- – Real per-unit profit after every fee (fees guide)
Then decide like an operator: double down on what the data likes, fix or kill what it doesn’t. The most common day-90 mistake is judging the account when the data is really judging one weak product.
The Honest Truth About the First 90 Days
Expect: modest sales, learning costs in ads, at least one operational surprise (a suppressed listing, a courier issue, a weird return). None of these are failure — they’re tuition. Failure is only ignoring the metrics that were telling you what to fix.
