Diwali (early November this year) isn’t one sale — it’s the crescendo of a six-week festive arc that starts with September-October’s big platform events and runs through Bhai Dooj. For most Indian sellers it’s 25-40% of annual revenue compressed into weeks. Here’s the operator’s checklist.
Is Guide Mein
September: Position
- – Inventory math for the whole arc, not one event. GIF/BBD + Dhanteras + Diwali week each pull stock; forecast the arc, then add 20% buffer on heroes. Under-stocking Diwali is the most expensive mistake in Indian e-commerce.
- – FBA/Smart-Fulfillment inbound early. Festive warehouse cutoffs arrive weeks before the events, and festive storage rates rise — send fast movers first.
- – Gifting angle on listings that deserve it: gift-ready imagery, “Diwali gift” in backend terms where genuinely relevant, bundle SKUs (diya sets, hampers, combo packs) created NOW so they build ranking history before November.
October: Convert
- – A+ Content refresh with festive context — gifting scenarios, family imagery — without breaking category rules.
- – Ads on a two-wave plan: wave one during GIF/BBD, then deliberately keep winners warm between events (the between-weeks have lower CPCs and real gifting traffic), wave two peaks Dhanteras → Diwali week.
- – Defend brand terms. Festive season is when competitors bid on your brand name; a small defensive exact-match campaign is cheap insurance.
- – Watch the calendar micro-peaks: Dhanteras (metals, kitchen, appliances), Diwali eve (last-minute gifting with fast delivery filters — FBA/F-Assured badges matter most here).
Diwali Week: Operate
- – Daily, non-negotiable: buyability check (suppressions, pricing errors, stranded stock), budget caps, Buy Box status, dispatch SLAs.
- – Fast-delivery filters decide late orders — if you’re FBA/F-Assured, lean into it in ads; last-3-days buyers filter by delivery date, not price.
- – Hold prices steady through the week. Mid-week discount panic destroys margin exactly when demand is most price-insensitive.
November’s Second Half: The Part Everyone Ignores
- – Returns wave: festive returns run high (gifting mismatches, impulse buys). Process fast, document damaged returns, and file every legitimate claim — reconciliation after Diwali routinely recovers real money.
- – Restock what’s still moving — the wedding season follows immediately; November stockouts hand December to competitors.
- – Reconcile the whole arc: event fees, storage, ads, returns — one clean P&L per SKU. This number, not gross sales, tells you what Diwali actually earned.
- – Bank the data: your 2026 festive numbers are your 2027 planning baseline. Save the reports now, while they’re easy to pull.
The One-Line Summary
Diwali rewards sellers who decided everything in September and merely executed in November. If you’re reading this in September — you’re on time. If it’s already October, start with inventory and ads warm-up today and skip what you can’t recover.
